Dr. Michael McGinty.
My primary focus is on anxiety, depression, and relational difficulties. Problems in these areas may be caused by a number of contributing factors including significant loss, unexplained sadness, feeling one is not where they "should" be in life, or difficulty during childhood. The effect these variables have on us can be better understood by exploring the thoughts, emotions, and interpersonal relationships surrounding them.

I have additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), both of which are therapeutic approaches proven to assist with anxiety and depression. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on the connection between how we think about things and our mood, and Interpersonal Therapy focuses of the connection between how we relate to people and our mood.

My practice is currently 100% teletherapy, as this gives greater convenience and accessibility to therapy. If you want to start therapy, but work long hours, have limited availability, have to travel, or have some kind of unique situation, you may find teletherapy more beneficial than in-person therapy. This allows you to do therapy from the comfort of your home, office, car, and be anywhere in the state, which can make therapy much easier to start.

I am also a PSYPACT licensed psychologist, meaning that if you have to travel for work, vacation, school, etc., we can still meet for therapy, as long as you are still in one of the 38 PSYPACT states.

My Work as a Therapist.
Since entering the field roughly 17 years ago, I have worked with individuals in a variety of settings, which include crisis care, inpatient treatment facilities, and college counseling centers. Having this diverse work experience has helped me understand the many different factors that may be contributing to my client's concerns.
Today, I work with a variety of adult individuals, and specialize in anxiety, depression, and relational difficulties. While I use a variety of different therapeutic techniques, my primary focus (as previously mentioned) is on the role thinking styles and relational styles.

I also have extensive training in the use of clinical hypnosis, which is a highly useful technique in treating depression and anxiety. Hypnosis allows us to tap into our natural abilities by using our own imagination to access resources we weren't aware of or weren't using. Newer healthier ideas are presented that are more compatible with what we want to change.
